Resistance and Resilience in Trying Times
Graphic Novel
Herbs for the Apocalypse has evolved into many forms, including its transmutation into a women-crafted, botanically-infused indie graphic novel. The story is a fusion of medicinal plant knowledge woven into a tale of resilience and resistance in trying times. The protagonist, Sofia, a misanthropic luddite with a love for punk rock (born in the wrong decade), grapples with her frustration at the human race for destroying the planet. The style of the book is a throwback to "zines" from the early 90's. Learn more about the graphic novel below.
Digital is Temporary. Print is Forever.
Herbs for the Apocalypse first emerged as a Sunday Comic weekly digital release in June 2021. It was a melding of the weekly column newspaper of the days of old and the funny pages. Then it self-destructed. The archive is the print edition, which is now available! Thanks to our crowdfunders, collaborators, and sponsors for helping make this vision a reality.
The print edition has always been this tale’s destiny! Books shall never die. The graphic novel is only available in print and is a limited edition of 300 hand-numbered copies. 120 color and black and white pages. No digital version will ever see the light of day.
Ordering info is below. Thanks for supporting this gaggle of independent artists, collaborators, and plant-inspired visions to collectively learn and fight for the right to utilize the gifts of Mother Nature.
About the Herbs for the Apocalypse Project
It all started with the novel, which lead to the spin-off project, and then proceeded into a graphic novel. The spinoff project Herbs for the Apocalypse is a resource for self-empowerment through plant medicine and nature. We are passionate about the need to listen and collectively fight for our ability to respectfully reconnect with this knowledge. Learn more about our intentions and journey to tune in more deeply to the plant world. For more info on the project and the oxygen breathers behind it, take a gander below.
Tune In.
This comic has its own set list! Music has always been a carrier of the tale. The Herbs for the Apocalypse world is inspired by proto-punk, post punk, and everything in between (and we threw in some psychrock as well).

Praise for HFTA
“Herbs for the Apocalypse is a timely and much-needed comic for our current world that has become so disconnected from nature. It provides insightful commentary on capitalism, work, community, and society at large. I love its slice-of-life style interspersed with moments of profound spiritual reflection. Sofia is an incredible protagonist who is the direct vehicle for much of the commentary. She deeply feels for the suffering of the planet and has a strong desire to heal it. The numerous mentions of specific herbs and their applications is also a very rewarding element of the story, especially for readers who benefit from a wide variety of herbs in their own lives. I’ve never seen anything else reference and discuss herbs so thoughtfully. The comic evokes several emotions, from sadness to hope to even several moments of humor. It feels great to be part of this journey and I can’t wait to see where the story goes!”
